Before & after

The character stays.
The difference shows.

This kitchen shows how the appearance of the grout can change the feel of a whole floor. The original stone and its natural markings remain, with lighter joints giving a more consistent appearance.

Kitchen floor restoration

Grout that complements the stone.

The starting point

Dark grout lines stood out against the warmer stone, giving the floor a busy, uneven appearance.

The visible result

Lighter, more consistent grout lines now sit more quietly alongside the stone. Its natural markings and texture remain visible. This is the result shown on this floor; yours would be assessed on its own merits.

I’m Damian Stevens, the person you’ll speak to about your floor. Wey Valley Stone offers specialist natural stone and tiled floor restoration for homeowners and property professionals across Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex.

The starting point is understanding your floor and what you’d like to improve.

I’ll explain the options, the proposed treatment and any limitations before you make a decision. You’ll receive a clear quotation for the agreed work and practical advice on looking after the finish.

Care for the floor you already have

A considered approach.
A floor worth keeping.

Stone restoration considers the surface, its finish and existing protection. Tile and grout restoration considers the tiles and the joints between them. A floor may need attention to one or both, with the treatment selected after assessment.

01 / NATURAL STONE

Care for the stone surface

Dullness, patchiness and marks can have different causes. I assess the surface, finish and existing protection before recommending cleaning, restoration or sealing where appropriate. We discuss the appearance you want to retain and what can realistically be improved.

02 / STONE & FINISH

Natural stone floors with character

Limestone, travertine, marble, slate, sandstone, granite and quartzite, including flagstone floors. Care is selected for the material, finish and condition, with clear advice on what can realistically be improved.

03 / TILES & GROUT

Dark grout. Uneven-looking tiles.

Specialist restoration addresses ingrained dirt and uneven-looking grout lines. Tile surfaces and joints are assessed separately, with products and equipment chosen for their material and condition. Where suitable, grout recolouring can create a more consistent appearance.

04 / GROUT RECOLOURING

Grout colour that brings the floor together

Where suitable, a grout recolouring and restoration compound can create a more consistent colour. Suitability and bonding are checked before proceeding.

A few useful answers

Before you decide.

Can my floor be restored rather than replaced?

Often there is scope to improve an existing floor, but photographs alone cannot establish everything. The assessment considers the surface, its condition and any damage or movement. I’ll explain what restoration can address and flag problems that need a different trade.

Do you need to strip or polish every stone floor?

No. The treatment depends on the stone, its finish, existing products and condition. Stripping or polishing is only considered where appropriate and agreed as part of the quotation. A matt or textured floor is not automatically changed to a polished finish.

Will all stains and marks come out?

Some marks respond well to treatment; others may remain or need a different approach. Staining, etching and natural variation are different issues. I’ll explain the likely outcome after assessment and may recommend a test area to help establish what is achievable.

How long does the work take, and when can I use the floor?

This depends on the area, treatment and any drying or curing time. Your quotation will explain the expected duration, access requirements and when the floor can be walked on or returned to normal use.

Will sealing make my floor stain-proof?

No. A suitable sealer can help reduce absorption and make ongoing care easier, but it does not make stone stain-proof or prevent every type of damage. You’ll receive advice on spills, cleaning and maintaining the protection.

How do I get advice and a quotation?

Start by sending photos and your postcode. I’ll review the floor with you and explain whether a visit or test area is needed. You then receive a clear quotation for the agreed restoration work, so you can review the scope and price before deciding.

Can you change the colour of my grout?

Where the grout and its condition are suitable, grout recolouring can give the floor a more consistent appearance. The grout is assessed and bonding checked before using a grout recolouring and restoration compound. It is not a solution for movement or underlying structural problems.
